Museum Van Loon and Mondriaan Fund are pleased to invite you to a special afternoon program on October 10th, 15.00-17.00 hrs, in Museum Van Loon. 

Mr Hong Djien Oei and mr Wiyu Wahono, both from Indonesia and mr William Lim, from Hong Kong, will give public presentations on their extensive and prominent contemporary art collections. They have been invited to The Netherlands by the Mondriaan Fund in their international visitors program. The occasion for this special event in Museum Van Loon is the exhibition Suspended Histories with well-known artists from Asia and Oceania that the museum hosts from 5 October to 20 January 2014.

Suspended Histories 
Suspended Histories has as departure point the relationship between the Van Loon family with the Dutch East India Company (VOC) in the seventeenth and eighteenth century. Willem van Loon was co-founder of the VOC in 1602 and for numerous generations many members of the family held high positions within the company. Well known artists, from areas in Asia and Oceania which The Netherlands traded with at the time of the VOC, have been asked to produce work for Suspended Histories in relation to their own existence and background. The title Suspended Histories indicates that history is a dynamic process. History is, you might say, continuously ‘suspended’ – in time and in space. The way history is being analyzed and judged, depends on contemporary discourse. For this exhibition the museum has invited guest curator Thomas Berghuis, who is a curator at the Guggenheim Museum in New York. Participating artists are Tiong Ang (1961, Indonesia, currently living in Amsterdam), Arahmaiani (1961, Indonesia, currently living in Yogyakarta), Simryn Gill (1959, Singapore, currently living both in Sydney and Port Moresby, Malaysia), Ni Haifeng (1964, China, currently living in Amsterdam), Newell Harry (1972, Australia, currently living in Sydney), Yee I-Lann (1971, Malaysia, currently living in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia), Mella Jaarsma (1960, Emmeloord, currently living in Yogyakarta), Donna Ong (1978, Singapore, currently living in Singapore), Lisa Reihana (1964, New-Zealand, currently living in Auckland, New-Zealand), Fiona Tan (1966, Indonesia, currently living in Amsterdam) and Titarubi (1968, Indonesia, currently living in Yogyakarta). 

Dr. Oei Hong Djien, Magelan (Indonesia) 
Dr. Oei Hong Djien is a retired medical doctor and entrepreneur. He has been collecting modern and contemporary Indonesian art intensively for more than 30 years. His collection comprises more than 2500 artworks consisting of paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, art objects, installation art, photographs and video art. He has been lending his collection for exhibitions in the country and abroad. He is the founder and curator of OHD Museum in Magelang, Central-Java, Indonesia which has 3 venues, the first opened in 1997, the second 2006 and the third April 2012. 
He was honorary advisor of Singapore Art Museum (2001- 2005), board member of Singapore Art Museum (2005 – 2009) and advisor of The National Art Gallery of Singapore for Indonesian Art (2010 – 2012). He was also curator of Museum H. Widayat in Mungkid, Magelang (1994 – 2009), and became advisor since 2011. He is member of the Advisory Board of Yogyakarta Biennale Foundation since 2011. A book on a fraction of his collection, written by DR Helena Spanjaard has been published in 2004. A compilation of his essays and selected lectures on Indonesian art, artists, and art collecting spanning a period of 20 years has been published in 2012. He has written a book about the five maestros of modern Indonesian art: Affandi, S. Sudjojono, Hendra Gunawan, H. Widayat, Soedibio. 

Dr. Wiyu Wahono, Jakarta (Indonesia) 
Dr. Wahono started collecting in 1998. He has contributed different articles to Indonesia Art Magazines and is speaker/moderator in several talks. Dr. Wahono is one of the founders of the community ‘Indonesian Young Collectors’, which among others invites art experts to do presentations during the socalled Art Lover Dinners. He collects mostly Indonesian contemporary art and some Asian and western contemporary art. 

William Lim, Hong Kong
William Lim received his Bachelor and Master degrees in Architecture, minoring in photography, from Cornell University in the United States. After graduation, he worked in Boston for 5 years before returning to Hong Kong in 1987. In 1993, he assumed the position of Managing Director of CL3 Architects Limited, a multidisciplinary architecture and interior design firm which also actively involves in public art installation projects. He has participated in Lantern Wonderland 2003 & 2011 and Venice Biennale’s International Architectural Exhibition in 2006 & 2010, as well as Hong Kong & Shenzhen Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture in 2007 and 2009. His work has been exhibited in Hong Kong, Chengdu, the United States and Holland. Besides being an artist, he is also the Co-chairman of Para/Site, a non-profit art space in Hong Kong, serves on the Asia Pacific Acquisition Committee for Tate, as well.
