Coach house
A unique setting
At the far side of the garden lies the coach house, like the main house itself designed by Adriaen Dortsman. Coaches would enter through the Kerkstraat, which was especially designed for coach houses. Although the coach house has always been part of the complex, it remained private property of the Van Loon family up until 2009. With the help of foundations and donations, the coach house was acquired by the museum. Museum Van Loon is the only museum in the Netherlands where the original unity of canal house, garden and coach house can be viewed in its entirety.
Admiring the coach house
Restoration on the coach house was recently completed. The original carriage housing is restored, and the historic carriages and horse-drawn sleds of the Van Loon family are on display alternately. The coach house is also available for educational activities, and will house exhibitions and events.
Help us pull the carriage
Restoring the historic building was a costly affair, and the museum can still use your support. You can become a ‘Friend of Museum Van Loon’ by donating € 50, and have free access to the museum for one year. Your support is most welcome; together we can make sure the coach house stays open and will have a variety of exhibitions on show.
